Memento homo quia pulvis est et pulverem reverteris
Remember man that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return.
In the Old Testament, penance and mourning was signified by fasting, wearing sackcloth, sitting in dust and ashes, and putting dust and ashes on one’s head. Numbers 19 v9 and of course Ash Wednesday in the Catholic church reminds man of his origin.
God created us out of dust because dust holds every metal every particle in the universe including gold. We are a representation of the Universe in microcosm, created by God.
He is dust as He is everything. We represent Him in physical form and we are supposed to in our soul form with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The dust of the earth was not alive.
Man was dead when God created him and the Spirit hovered over Man and breathed in Life with his soul animated from Him!
Adam came to the world as a resurrected being. He was not God so needed to be linked by the spirit so that the soul and the body could remain together. We would decay if not through the second law of Thermo Dynamics – entropy.
God has suspended the rottenness and decay by circumventing the law of decay in us so long as we are alive to Him.This is what happens when the Spirit of God comes over you. The soul needs to be in relation with God for suspension to remain.
Man becomes eternal when he remains in relationship with God.
That is why Jesus said
Amplified Bible (AMP)
25 Jesus said to her, I am [Myself] the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on) Me, although he may die, yet he shall live;
